The Melbourne Scorn

Test 895 – Australia v. India – 3rd Test, February 7th-11th, 1981
India won by 59 runs.

Everything under the Sun,
Everything blazing at Melbourne,
Australia, India, slogging it out,
For cricket, for sport, for scorn.

Gavaskar and Lillee could not get along,
So when the former was out leg before,
He fumed, and he ranted, and put on quite a show,
But was out with a 70b scored.

So India grew and continued to grow,
But still looked to stand way, way behind,
For Australia not to make one forty-three,
You’d have had to be out of your mind.

Chappell, Greg Chappell, Australian hero,
And one of the best of them all,
Was bamboozled by Ghavri when he came to the crease,
And went back to the pavilion first ball.

So India grew and continued to grow,
Injured Kapil Dev sprang into life,
Australia crumbled for just 83,
And the World’s best all-rounder took five.
